Bracket Picker

The initial challenge was to create a March Madness (US college basketball tournament) product for Caesar's Casino. They wanted a free-to-play web app where users made their predictions for the whole tournament and competed against each other to win prizes.

My Role

I led the design from December 2018 until it was released for Caesar's in match 2019 and then, when it was picked up to be a whitelabel product in late 2019, I led the design again and took on the Product Owner role.

In addition, I worked closely with the Developers, Project Manager and also presented to stakeholders regularly.

The Beginning

When this project first came my way, in December 2018, we were told that Caesar's wanted a customer acquisition tool in time for the upcoming March Madness tournament (we had only just launched their online presence in 2018). Due to the short deadline to get the product developed, it was never intended that it would be a whitelabel product that we'd sell to our other customers.

However, after the success of the launch for Caesar's it was then decided that this was something we should get into our product offering.

Expansion

When we decided this needed to be in our product stack, we needed to make sure that we had a design structure that made it easy to expand in the future when additional requirements and features arise. We did expand this to support other tournament structures as one of our customers intended to use it for the 2020 Euro's, the tournament was cancelled in the end but we managed to expand the product to support this.

Release

The Bracket Picker has been used by Caesar's and when I left the company, had plans of going live with more customers in the near future, for both March Madness and also tournaments in other sports.
